# helper

noun (a helper, helpers)

«helper» in the English dictionary: everyday and in Jewish tradition — its meanings, how the lessons use it, and examples, each with its tree on Mova.

## Everyday

1. A helper is a person who helps someone do a job. [tree →](https://mova.elamur.ai/free/en/corpora/dictionaries/school/H/helper/#m1)
2. In school, a helper can be a teaching assistant, a parent who helps, or a child given a job, like «milk helper». [tree →](https://mova.elamur.ai/free/en/corpora/dictionaries/school/H/helper/#m2)

### In the lessons

In everyday life and school, helpers set up the classroom, hand out books, or help on trips. In safety lessons «look for the helpers» — police officers, teachers, shop staff — means there are people you can go to if you are lost or scared. In stories little helpers, like Santa's elves, do work for others. Phrases: «a good helper», «classroom helper», «parent helper», «mother's little helper».

## In Jewish tradition

Someone who helps, and often God Himself, who helps those who have no one else.

**Interpretation.** The Psalms call God the helper of the weak, the orphan and the poor. Tradition reads this as God's care for those who are alone.
