In science lessons, the hermit crab moves into bigger shells as it grows. In stories, a hermit is often a mysterious old person in the woods. Phrases: «live like a hermit», «hermit crab», «become a hermit».

### Note

Plural: «hermits». Adjective: «hermit-like». A hermit crab's shell is borrowed; it does not grow its own. Calling a person a hermit as a joke is not unkind, but it can be about real loneliness.
