## In Jewish tradition

Concealed or secret; in the Torah it can mean treasure kept out of sight, and in Sefer Yetzirah secret or deep things. The psalmist also speaks of "hidden faults", sins a person does not notice, and Proverbs of love that is kept hidden and never shown.

**Interpretation.** Tradition speaks of hidden things (the "nistar") as mysteries known to God, while the revealed teachings belong to Israel. Sefer Yetzirah's hidden "places" point to deep divine secrets. "Hidden faults" are read as sins done by mistake, for which a person asks forgiveness.
