## In Jewish tradition

Used much as in everyday English. It means to harm or injure, and it can also mean a borrowed animal that is injured.

**Interpretation.** Tradition reads the law of borrowed animals as teaching careful responsibility for another person's property. A borrower who was not with the animal when it was hurt had to pay the owner back.
