### Meaning

1. (euphemism, polite) a strange or bad choice, said politely instead of criticising openly.
2. (literal) a choice that is interesting.

### In the lessons

Used by friends, teachers, judges on TV and shop assistants to hint that something looks wrong or odd without saying it plainly. The tone of voice does most of the work. Register: polite, ironic; all regions.

### Examples

- Pink socks with a suit — interesting choice.
- Judge on TV: Using sardines in a cake was an interesting choice.
- Teacher: An interesting choice of colours for the map!
- Chat: «interesting choice» = she hates it
- Leaving your coat at home in the snow was an interesting choice.
- Choosing between science and art is an interesting choice for next year.
- Mum looked at my haircut and said, «Interesting choice.»

### Note

Do not always take it as praise; often it means «I don't like it». Sometimes it is sincere — check the tone and face. Plain meaning: a bad or odd choice.
