### Meaning

1. (euphemism, polite, UK) sent to the head teacher, usually for being in trouble.
2. (literal) asked to visit the head teacher for any reason, good or bad.

### In the lessons

Used by teachers and school letters to sound polite about punishment, and by pupils with irony. Register: polite, school; UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand («head teacher» or «principal»).

### Examples

- After the fight, both boys were invited to see the head.
- Chat: got «invited to see the head» again lol
- Ella was invited to see the head to collect her prize.
- Report: Jack was invited to see the head about his behaviour at lunch.
- When you're invited to see the head, it's rarely for cake.
- Mum asked, «Why were you invited to see the head today?»

### Note

«Head» here is the head teacher, not a body part. «Invited» sounds kind, but it is usually not optional and often means trouble. In the US: «sent to the principal's office». Plain words: sent to the head teacher.
