## In Jewish tradition

Jezebel was a princess from Sidon who married King Ahab of Israel, promoted the worship of Baal, and killed prophets of the LORD. She plotted the death of Naboth to seize his vineyard.

**Interpretation.** Tradition remembers her as the model of a wicked queen. Elijah's prophecy that dogs would eat her was fulfilled.
