## In Jewish tradition

In the Torah judgment is a decision or a rule of law. It often means the right and just outcome of a case. In the prophets and writings it also means a punishment that God decides on a nation or person, or God's own just ruling.

**Interpretation.** Tradition reads God as the judge of all the earth and teaches that human judges must follow the law with fairness, using honest weights and measures, and not twisting the case of the poor. The prophets' judgments on nations are read as God's justice answering their deeds.
