## In Jewish tradition

Your family and relatives, the people you are born into. In the writings it also means a whole clan or nation, as in "the kindreds of the peoples."

**Interpretation.** The rabbis saw Abraham's sending to his kindred as showing that the family's values and way of life should continue, and later it was read as a pattern for marrying within the Jewish people. The psalms are read as hoping that all the families of the earth will one day turn to God.
