### In the lessons

In everyday life lasagne is a family dinner, a school-dinner favourite and a dish people bring to friends who are ill or have a new baby. In maths it is used for sharing problems (cut a lasagne into equal pieces) and in science for layers. Phrases: "a slice of lasagne", "vegetable lasagne", "layers of lasagne".

### Note

British and Irish English usually spell it "lasagne"; American English often spells it "lasagna". Both are correct. Usually uncountable (some lasagne, a piece of lasagne), but you can say "a lasagne" for one whole dish. In a sharing problem, if a lasagne is cut into 12 equal pieces and you eat 3, you have eaten 3/12 = 1/4 of it.
