## In Jewish tradition

Interpretation: Judah is called a lion's whelp in Jacob's blessing, and tradition reads this as a sign that kingship would come from Judah's tribe, as with David. The lion is a symbol of Judah and of strength. In the Prophets and Psalms the lion's roar is a picture of danger and of God's awesome word, and the psalmist asks to be rescued from lions, meaning cruel enemies. Job shows God as the one who feeds the young lions. In the primary lessons: In maths: an animal counted in a zoo or story; its legs, food or weight may be counted; «each lion» makes a rate. In science: lions are predators and carnivores; they live in groups called prides and the lionesses do most of the hunting. In stories: the lion as the king of the jungle; brave as a lion.
