### Note

No operation clue. The «t» is silent: say «LIS-en». We «listen to» something; «hear» is what reaches your ears even when you do not try.

## In Jewish tradition

To listen in the Bible often means to obey, not just hear. God calls to the islands and peoples to listen.

**Interpretation.** "Shema," listen, is the first word of Israel's central prayer. Tradition reads it as hearing and taking to heart.
