## Everyday

A lorikeet is a small, very brightly coloured parrot from Australia, New Guinea and nearby islands, which feeds on nectar and pollen from flowers with a brush-tipped tongue. [tree →](https://mova.elamur.ai/free/en/corpora/dictionaries/school/L/lorikeet/#m1)

### In the lessons

In Australian and NZ life, rainbow lorikeets are common in gardens and parks, noisy and colourful (blue head, green back, orange chest). In science lessons they show how birds pollinate flowers and adapt to eat nectar. In New Zealand and Western Australia they can be pests because they were brought in and compete with local birds. Phrases: «rainbow lorikeet», «a flock of lorikeets».
