# lung

noun (a lung, lungs)

«lung» in the English dictionary: everyday and in Jewish tradition — its meanings, how the lessons use it, and examples, each with its tree on Mova.

## Everyday

The lungs are the two organs inside your chest that you breathe with; they take oxygen from the air into your blood and let carbon dioxide out. [tree →](https://mova.elamur.ai/free/en/corpora/dictionaries/school/L/lung/#m1)

### In the lessons

In science lessons on the body, air goes down the windpipe into the lungs; the lungs are protected by the ribs; the diaphragm muscle helps them fill and empty. Exercise makes lungs work harder; smoking and smoke damage them. In safety, in a fire smoke is dangerous to lungs, so stay low. Phrases: «at the top of your lungs» (very loudly), «lung capacity».
