### Meaning

(euphemism, jargon) a big fall in prices of shares or houses, usually 10% or more, said as if it were just «fixing» prices that were too high.

### In the lessons

Used by banks, investors and news to make a fall sound normal and healthy. Register: jargon, financial; all regions.

### Examples

- News: Experts say the drop is just a market correction.
- The house market is due a correction.
- Chat: «market correction» = everyone lost money
- Investors stayed calm during the market correction.
- Maths: A share falls from £100 to £85 — a 15% correction.

### Note

It is still a fall in prices. A bigger fall is a «crash». In maths, a correction is often measured as a percentage drop. Plain words: a big fall in prices.
