## In Jewish tradition

A minstrel is a musician. Here it is a player of a stringed instrument whose music helps a prophet receive prophecy.

**Interpretation.** Tradition reads Elisha's request as showing that joy and calm of mind help prophecy to come, while anger or sadness does not.
