Trap: any number multiplied by 1 stays the same, by 0 becomes 0. ## In Jewish tradition It tells of Israel's growth in Egypt, which was a sign of God's blessing and promise to the patriarchs. Hosea says Ephraim "multiplied altars to sin", so more of a good thing became more wrongdoing. **Interpretation.** Tradition notes that Israel grew all the more as Pharaoh oppressed them, showing that God's promise could not be stopped. ### Examples - And God dealt well with the midwives; and the people multiplied, and waxed very mighty.
