An old word for a woman murderer is "murderess". Note: killing by accident is not murder; in law it may be "manslaughter". A person is not called a murderer by the court until found guilty. ## In Jewish tradition In the Torah a murderer who kills on purpose must be put to death, and no payment can save him. **Interpretation.** Tradition says a life cannot be paid for with money, and it separates the murderer from one who kills by accident and may flee to a city of refuge. ### Examples - The avenger of blood shall himself put the murderer to death; when he meeteth him, he shall put him to death.
