# necessarily

adverb (necessarily)

«necessarily» in the English dictionary: everyday and in Jewish tradition — its meanings, how the lessons use it, and examples, each with its tree on Mova.

## Everyday

1. Used mostly in «not necessarily»: not always, not in every case. [tree →](https://mova.elamur.ai/free/en/corpora/dictionaries/school/N/necessarily/#m1)
2. In a way that cannot be different; because it must be so. [tree →](https://mova.elamur.ai/free/en/corpora/dictionaries/school/N/necessarily/#m2)

### In the lessons

In maths, science and reasoning lessons it is a key thinking word: «A bigger box is not necessarily heavier» — one example does not prove a rule. In media literacy: «Popular is not necessarily true». It warns against jumping to conclusions.

### Examples

- Big dogs are not necessarily scary. [tree →](https://mova.elamur.ai/free/en/corpora/dictionaries/school/N/necessarily/#x1)

### Note

Spelling trap: one «c», double «s»: ne-ce-ss-ar-i-ly («one collar, two sleeves»). «Not necessarily» is softer than «no»: it means «sometimes yes, sometimes no». In maths, one counterexample shows a statement is not necessarily true.

### Examples
