# normally

adverb (normally)

«normally» in the English dictionary: everyday and in Jewish tradition — its meanings, how the lessons use it, and examples, each with its tree on Mova.

## Everyday

1. Usually; in most cases: «I normally walk to school». [tree →](https://mova.elamur.ai/free/en/corpora/dictionaries/school/N/normally/#m1)
2. In a normal or ordinary way: «Breathe normally». [tree →](https://mova.elamur.ai/free/en/corpora/dictionaries/school/N/normally/#m2)

### In the lessons

In everyday life: describing routines — «I normally go to bed at eight». In science: «the heart normally beats 70–100 times a minute for children». In stories «normally» sets up something unusual: «Normally the house was quiet, but that night…». Similar: usually, generally, typically.

### Examples

- Although Resh is usually thought to belong to the letters which cannot normally receive a dagesh, this was apparently not the case for these traditions. (Sefer Yetzirah, Sefaria community translation) [tree →](https://mova.elamur.ai/free/en/corpora/dictionaries/judaism/N/normally/#x1)
- The first is clearly the root שָׁכַב shakhav ‘to lie, lie down’, but שכובה looks like a passive participle, shekhuvah, while shakhav is normally an intransitive verb not amenable to being made passive.
