In history lessons the Norse are the Vikings and their families: farmers, traders, raiders and explorers who reached Britain, Ireland, Iceland, Greenland and even North America. Norse myths tell of gods like Odin, Thor and Loki, the world tree Yggdrasil, and Valhalla. Many English words come from Old Norse, like «sky», «egg», «knife» and «Thursday» (Thor's day). Phrases: «Norse myths», «Norse gods», «Old Norse».

Always a capital N. Mostly an adjective: «Norse myths». «Norse» and «Viking» are close but not the same: «Viking» often means the raiders and traders, «Norse» the whole people and culture. Trap: Vikings did not wear horned helmets; that is a myth from later art and opera.
