### Meaning

1. (literal) the number 2; second in a list or ranking.
2. (euphemism, children's talk) a poo; going to the toilet to empty the bowels.
3. (literal) the second most important person in a group (the boss's number two).

### In the lessons

Children, parents and carers use «number two» to talk about poo politely and without rude words. In other contexts it just means second. Everyday register, all English-speaking countries; the toilet sense is mostly children's talk.

### Examples

- Turn to question number two.
- I need a number two — where's the toilet?
- The dog did a number two on the lawn.
- She is the company's number two, after the boss.
- Our team finished at number two in the league.
- Is it a number one or a number two, sweetie?
- Two times number two is four.

### Note

In maths it is simply 2. The toilet sense appears only in bathroom talk, and can make children laugh. Plain words for the toilet sense: poo, defecate.
