# obernant

noun (plural: obernants; Mova technical neologism)

«obernant» in the English dictionary: everyday — its meanings, how the lessons use it, and examples, each with its tree on Mova.

## Everyday

A typed complementary model that supplements a system's forward description by characterizing excluded behavior, compatible inputs or prior states, ambiguities, or constraints implied by observations. [tree →](https://mova.elamur.ai/free/en/corpora/dictionaries/english/O/obernant/#m1)

### In the lessons

A forward model describes how a system proceeds from inputs to outcomes. An obernant examines questions such as: What behavior is excluded within a specified domain? Which inputs or earlier states could produce this outcome? What possibilities does an observation rule out? What information cannot be uniquely recovered? Under what conditions can a particular error occur? An obernant may take the form of a mathematical relation, logical specification, approximation, or executable model. Its type determines how it should be interpreted and checked. An inverse function is one special case. Obernants can also preserve multiple compatible antecedents, describe excluded possibilities, or explicitly retain what remains unknown.

### Examples

- Behavior-complement obernant. For a sorting system required to preserve its input multiset, outputs that introduce or remove values are excluded. This describes one class of forbidden outcomes; it does not characterize every possible sorting error. [tree →](https://mova.elamur.ai/free/en/corpora/dictionaries/english/O/obernant/#x1)
- Reverse-reconstruction obernant. For f(x) = x² over real numbers, observing f(x) = 9 gives the compatible-input set {-3, 3}. The reconstruction preserves both possibilities rather than inventing a unique inverse. [tree →](https://mova.elamur.ai/free/en/corpora/dictionaries/english/O/obernant/#x2)
- Observation-exclusion obernant. In a Boolean system defined by y = a ∨ b, observing y = false excludes every input pair containing a true value. [tree →](https://mova.elamur.ai/free/en/corpora/dictionaries/english/O/obernant/#x3)
- Ambiguity obernant. If a report records only the sum of two nonnegative integers as ten, eleven ordered input pairs remain compatible. The total alone cannot recover the individual contributions. [tree →](https://mova.elamur.ai/free/en/corpora/dictionaries/english/O/obernant/#x4)
- Error-condition obernant. For an array lookup whose specified error is OutOfBounds, the error corresponds to indices outside the array's valid range. The error alone does not identify the exact index or array length. [tree →](https://mova.elamur.ai/free/en/corpora/dictionaries/english/O/obernant/#x5)

### Note

Coined in the Mova project, from Ukrainian «обернант». This is a project-specific technical neologism, not a claim of established general-English usage. Each obernant declares its subject, domain, observation scope, assumptions, mathematical or executable formulation, and evidence status. Approximate obernants also specify their approximation semantics and, where applicable, an error metric or bound.
