# offspring

noun (offspring — same form for one and many)

«offspring» in the English dictionary: everyday and in Jewish tradition — its meanings, how the lessons use it, and examples, each with its tree on Mova.

## Everyday

1. Offspring are the young of an animal or plant: its babies or seeds. [tree →](https://mova.elamur.ai/free/en/corpora/dictionaries/school/O/offspring/#m1)
2. (formal or jokey) A person's offspring are their children. [tree →](https://mova.elamur.ai/free/en/corpora/dictionaries/school/O/offspring/#m2)

### In the lessons

In science lessons it is used about life cycles, reproduction and inheritance: parents pass features to their offspring. In everyday speech parents sometimes say «my offspring» as a joke for «my kids». Phrases: «produce offspring», «parents and offspring».

### Examples

## In Jewish tradition

Interpretation: In Sefer Yetzirah, the offspring are the many things that come from the first few letters, as children come from parents. In the primary lessons: In science lessons it is used about life cycles, reproduction and inheritance: parents pass features to their offspring. In everyday speech parents sometimes say «my offspring» as a joke for «my kids». Phrases: «produce offspring», «parents and offspring».
