# ola

fragment or name — not a common English word

«ola» in the English dictionary: everyday — its meanings, how the lessons use it, and examples, each with its tree on Mova.

## Everyday

1. Not an English word on its own. It may be a piece of a longer word, as in "cola", "granola" or "Coca-Cola". [tree →](https://mova.elamur.ai/free/en/corpora/dictionaries/school/O/ola/#m1)
2. It may be a name, like the girl's name Ola, or the Spanish greeting "hola" (hello) written without the h. [tree →](https://mova.elamur.ai/free/en/corpora/dictionaries/school/O/ola/#m2)
3. "Ola" is also the name of a taxi company in India and of a brand. [tree →](https://mova.elamur.ai/free/en/corpora/dictionaries/school/O/ola/#m3)

### In the lessons

You will not usually meet "ola" alone in lessons. If you see it in a word list, it probably came from splitting a word such as "cola" or "granola", or from a name. In Spanish, "hola" means "hello" (the h is silent), and "ola" means "wave" (of the sea).
