### In the lessons

In maths: a story action (open a box, a shop opens); times when a shop is open; sometimes a count found inside; an «open» shape has a gap and is not a closed shape. In everyday life: opening hours, opening presents, «open the window». In science: an open circuit has a gap, so no current flows. In stories: «the door creaked open».

### Note

«Opens at … closes at …» asks for time between them: subtract. Opening a box shows how many are inside. Trap: count hours carefully across noon. Opposite: close or shut, closed. In an electric circuit, «open» means broken (off), the opposite of everyday sense. Safety: do not open the door or messages from strangers.

## In Jewish tradition

Tradition reads God's opening Rachel's womb as a sign that He remembers and answers prayer. In Proverbs "open rebuke" is praised as better than love that is hidden, because honest correction helps a person.

**Interpretation.** Tradition reads God's opening Rachel's womb as a sign that He remembers and answers prayer. The sages value open, honest correction over silent affection.
