«Be opposed to + noun or -ing»: «opposed to waiting». «As opposed to» introduces a contrast. Do not confuse «opposed» (against) with «opposite» (on the other side, or totally different), though both share a root.

## In Jewish tradition

Interpretation: Sefer Yetzirah says the double letters have opposites, such as life and death, as pairs that show the balance in Creation.
