### Meaning

1. (euphemism, everyday) husband, wife or partner.
2. (literal) the second half of something.

### In the lessons

People use it warmly or jokingly to refer to their partner without saying «husband», «wife» or «girlfriend». Everyday register, mostly UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand.
