## In Jewish tradition

In Sefer Yetzirah it is one of the five places in the mouth where the letters are made. In Job and the Psalms it is the sense of taste, used as a picture: the ear tests words as the palate tests food, and God's words taste sweeter than honey.

**Interpretation.** The five places of speech are read as a sign that sound itself is part of God's ordered creation. The psalmist's sweet words are read as the joy of studying Torah.

### Examples
