In everyday life you see a pharmacist at a pharmacy, a chemist's (UK, Ireland, Australia) or drugstore (US). In health and safety lessons pupils learn to take medicine only as a doctor or pharmacist says. Phrases: ask your pharmacist, the local pharmacist.

### Note

Countable: a pharmacist. UK and Ireland also say chemist for the person and the shop. The «ph» sounds like f. Pharmacy is the shop or the subject. In maths dose problems, a pharmacist's instruction like «every 8 hours» means 3 times in a day.
