### In the lessons

## In Jewish tradition

Joseph orders them to embalm Jacob, following Egyptian custom. Later, Job calls his friends useless physicians, and King Asa is blamed for seeking physicians but not the LORD.

**Interpretation.** Tradition notes that Jacob was embalmed so that his body could be carried back to the Land of Israel for burial. Asa's story is read as a warning to trust God first, not to avoid doctors.
