## In Jewish tradition

Plowing is also a picture in the Prophets and Writings. Those who "plow iniquity" reap trouble, and the psalmist's back is "plowed" by cruel enemies like a field.

**Interpretation.** Tradition reads the ban on plowing with an ox and an ass together as a law of kindness to animals, since they are unequal in strength. The sayings about plowing evil are read as teaching that deeds bring their results.

### Examples

- Thou shalt not plow with an ox and an ass together. (Torah DEU.22.10, JPS 1917) [tree →](https://mova.elamur.ai/free/en/corpora/dictionaries/judaism/P/plow/#x1)
