### In the lessons

In history and science texts "popularly known as" introduces a nickname or common name (Sirius is popularly called the Dog Star). In citizenship lessons "popularly elected" means chosen by voters. The word warns that the common belief may differ from the exact truth: "popularly believed" can mean a myth.

Spelling: popular + ly = popularly (just add -ly). "Popularly believed" does not mean true — check the facts. Formal-sounding; in speech people say "most people call it".
