### Meaning

(euphemism, jargon) used; second-hand (especially of cars, phones and luxury goods).

### In the lessons

Car dealers and shops use it so used goods sound better and worth more. Commercial and jargon register, all English-speaking countries.

### Examples

- We bought a pre-owned car with low mileage.
- The shop sells certified pre-owned phones.
- Pre-owned just means someone owned it before.
- A pre-owned watch costs much less than a new one.
- Dad joked, «It's not old, it's pre-owned.»
- The dealer had a big sign: «Pre-owned vehicles».

### Note

It sounds fancier than «used», but it is the same thing. Plain words: used, second-hand.
