Pronounced pro-LONGD. Prolong is the verb; prolonged usually acts as an adjective before a noun. In maths problems, prolonged means the time is longer than first planned, so add the extra time.

## In Jewish tradition

Made longer or delayed. In Ezekiel people say "the days are prolonged," meaning prophecy is slow to come true. In Daniel the beasts' lives were prolonged for a time, and Isaiah says Babylon's days will not be prolonged.

**Interpretation.** Ezekiel is read as God's answer that His words will come true soon and not be delayed. Isaiah's saying is read as a sign that Babylon's fall is certain.
