### In the lessons

A very stiff legal phrase found in official letters, rules and exams: "pursuant to the school rules" means "according to" them. Children rarely need it except to read official documents. Phrases: pursuant to.

### Note

Only used with "to". In plain English say "under", "according to" or "following". In a maths problem "pursuant to the agreement, each gets half" means divide by 2; the phrase itself does not change numbers.
