### Meaning

A push-up is an exercise where you lie face down and push your body up with your arms, keeping your back straight, then lower it again.

### In the lessons

an exercise counted, often compared between people (push-ups and crunches); in PE class, push-ups build arm and chest strength; phrases «do push-ups», «a set of push-ups»

### Examples

- Zachary did 46 push-ups.
- David did 38 more push-ups than Zachary.
- How many push-ups did David do?
- She did 15 push-ups each day.
- In PE, we did 10 push-ups and 20 sit-ups.
- Keep your back straight when you do a push-up.
- Can you do a push-up on your knees?
- He did three sets of 12 push-ups.
- In the UK they call them press-ups.

### Note

A thing counted. «N more push-ups than X» adds N. Trap: push-ups and crunches are counted apart. Spelled with a hyphen; plural «push-ups». Each push-up is one up-and-down.
