# racially

adverb (racially)

«racially» in the English dictionary: everyday — its meanings, how the lessons use it, and examples, each with its tree on Mova.

## Everyday

1. In a way that is connected with race — the groups people are sometimes divided into because of skin colour, family background or where their families came from. [tree →](https://mova.elamur.ai/free/en/corpora/dictionaries/school/R/racially/#m1)
2. In phrases like "racially abused", in a way that treats someone badly because of their race, which is wrong and often against the law. [tree →](https://mova.elamur.ai/free/en/corpora/dictionaries/school/R/racially/#m2)

### In the lessons

In everyday life and school, the word appears in talk about fairness: a "racially mixed" class has children from many backgrounds, and "racially motivated" means something bad was done because of someone's race. Schools teach that treating people unfairly because of race (racism) is wrong. In history lessons, it appears in topics like the US civil rights movement, where some places were racially segregated (kept apart). Phrases: racially mixed, racially diverse, racially abused, racially motivated, racially segregated.

### Examples

### Note

Adverb from "racial" (adjective) and "race" (noun). Spelling: racially has double l. Note "race" also means a running contest — "racially" is never about running. Scientists today say all humans are one species; "race" is an idea people made up, but racism is still very real and hurts people.
