## In Jewish tradition

In the Prophets, people make ready chariots, shields and weapons for battle. In Job, calamity is ready for the wicked person's fall.

**Interpretation.** At Mount Sinai the people were told to be ready for three days before God spoke. Tradition reads this as showing that revelation needs preparation. Job's words are read as a picture of the downfall that waits for the wicked.
