### In the lessons

In everyday life and money lessons, a loan is repayable: you borrow money and must give it back, often with interest (extra money). A gift or grant is not repayable. In maths problems, "a loan of £100 repayable in 5 equal parts" means each payment is £100 ÷ 5 = £20. Phrases: repayable loan, repayable in instalments, repayable on demand, non-repayable.

### Examples

- The loan is repayable over two years. [tree →](https://mova.elamur.ai/free/en/corpora/dictionaries/school/R/repayable/#x1)

### Note

From "repay" + -able. In maths: repayable in N equal parts means total ÷ N each time; if interest is added, total to repay = amount borrowed + interest. "Non-repayable" means you never have to give it back.
