Uncountable: «revenge», not «a revenge» (except in some sports phrases). Usually used with «take», «get» or «seek», not as a plain verb. Do not mix up with «avenge», which is a verb meaning to punish someone for a wrong done to another person.

## In Jewish tradition

Pay-back for harm, which the prophets say Philistines and Edom took out of old hatred and for which God punishes them.

**Interpretation.** The Torah forbids taking revenge or bearing a grudge against one's people, and leaves true justice to God.
