## In Jewish tradition

In the Torah it is a command not to speak scornfully against God. Some read the Hebrew as also covering judges.

**Interpretation.** The rabbis took this to forbid blasphemy, which is a serious crime. Some of them also read the word as meaning that one must not curse judges.
