## Everyday

5. To ride on something can mean it depends on it: «Everything rides on this game». [tree →](https://mova.elamur.ai/free/en/corpora/dictionaries/school/R/ride/#m5)

### In the lessons

In maths: a trip with a distance or time; rides at a fair with tickets per ride; distances ridden on several days. In everyday life and safety: bike helmets, road safety, never take a ride from a stranger. In science: speed of a ride; forces on a roller coaster. In stories: a horse ride across the plains.

### Note

Rides with a price per ride lead to multiply or divide; distances ridden on several days add up. Trap: a ride there and back is twice the one-way distance. Forms: ride, rode, ridden (not «rided»). «Ride a bike/horse» (you sit on it) vs «drive a car» (you control it from inside). UK often says «give a lift» for a car ride.

## In Jewish tradition

Here it can mean to travel on a chariot or to be carried over high places. In Deuteronomy it describes God lifting Israel up.

**Interpretation.** Tradition reads "the high places of the earth" as the good land that God gave Israel.
