### Meaning

1. (informal, UK) mad, crazy.
2. (informal) very angry or annoyed ("drive me round the bend").
3. literally, past a curve in a road or river.

### In the lessons

Used in everyday British talk, often jokingly, to say someone is crazy or very irritating; informal, UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand. Can be unkind about real mental illness.

### Examples

- That dripping tap is driving me round the bend!
- Grandpa says the neighbours have gone round the bend.
- You'll drive your mum round the bend with that drum.
- The shop is just round the bend in the road.
- "Have you gone round the bend? It's freezing!"
- The river disappears round the bend.

### Note

Not polite about people who are really ill; better "mentally ill". Literal sense about roads exists too, so check the context. Same as "round the twist".
