## Everyday

1. A sailfish is a big ocean fish with a tall fin on its back that looks like a sail and a long pointed bill like a sword. [tree →](https://mova.elamur.ai/free/en/corpora/dictionaries/school/S/sailfish/#m1)

### In the lessons

In science and nature lessons it appears with ocean animals, speed records and food chains; in stories about fishing trips and the sea; the tall fin tells the reader about its shape and how it herds fish.

### Note

The plural is usually the same: one sailfish, two sailfish («sailfishes» is used when talking about kinds). It is a fish, not a boat. Claims that it is «the fastest fish» are often repeated but hard to measure; say «one of the fastest».
