## In Jewish tradition

In the Torah, "sang" refers to the Song of the Sea, which Moses, Miriam and Israel sang after crossing the sea.

**Interpretation.** Tradition says this song of thanks gave its name to the Shabbat Shirah, "the Sabbath of Song". Miriam leads the women in song with timbrels.
