### Meaning

1. dealt with, taken care of ("the leak has been seen to").
2. (euphemism, UK) of a pet: neutered, given an operation so it cannot have babies.
3. (slang, UK) beaten up or dealt with harshly.

### In the lessons

Everyday British phrase for getting something fixed or done; as a pet euphemism it avoids saying "neutered"; as slang it means getting hurt or punished.

### Examples

- Don't worry, the broken window has been seen to.
- Our tom cat has been seen to, so he won't wander as much.
- The vet asked if the dog had been seen to.
- Please make sure the guests are seen to.
- "Has the boiler been seen to yet?"
- In the old gangster film, the man who talked to the police was "seen to".

### Note

Several senses: fixed, neutered, beaten up. The context tells which. "See to it that…" means make sure that.
