## In Jewish tradition

To shake can mean to tremble with fear, as Job's bones did, or to move violently, as waves and mountains do. The psalms use it for the shaking of the earth before God's power. In Genesis it also means to throw off a yoke.

**Interpretation.** Tradition reads the shaking mountains and seas as the world trembling before its Creator.
