# shaped

adjective, verb form (shaped; from shape)

«shaped» in the English dictionary: everyday and in Jewish tradition — its meanings, how the lessons use it, and examples, each with its tree on Mova.

## Everyday

1. Shaped means having a certain form, like a heart-shaped cookie. [tree →](https://mova.elamur.ai/free/en/corpora/dictionaries/school/S/shaped/#m1)
2. Shaped is the past form of shape: she shaped the dough into balls. [tree →](https://mova.elamur.ai/free/en/corpora/dictionaries/school/S/shaped/#m2)

### In the lessons

Maths: describes a thing by its shape and may lead to its sides or area: «a field shaped like a square». Everyday: star-shaped, heart-shaped, L-shaped room, pear-shaped (gone wrong, informal).

### Note

Often joined with a hyphen: heart-shaped. Tells which shape rule to use (square: 4 equal sides, perimeter = 4 × side). Trap: «shaped like» means having that form, not being that thing.

## In Jewish tradition

In the Song of Songs it describes teeth as evenly matched, like a flock of ewes all alike.

**Interpretation.** Tradition reads the Song of Songs as a love poem between God and Israel, so praise of the beloved's features stands for Israel's beauty and order.

### Examples

- Thy teeth are like a flock of ewes all shaped alike, which are come up from the washing; whereof all are paired, and none faileth among them. (Writings SNG.4.2, JPS 1917) [tree →](https://mova.elamur.ai/free/en/corpora/dictionaries/judaism/S/shaped/#x1)

### Note

Often joined with a hyphen: heart-shaped. Tells which shape rule to use (square: 4 equal sides, perimeter = 4 × side). Trap: «shaped like» means having that form, not being that thing.
