## In Jewish tradition

Means a place of safety from storm, danger or enemies. The psalmists often use it for God as a refuge, while in Isaiah the shelter in Egypt turns out to be false.

**Interpretation.** Tradition reads the prophets as teaching that true shelter comes from trusting God, not from alliances with powerful nations.
